JUNIOR MAGPIES TASTE DEFEAT
Forbes Advocate
The Forbes Magpies under 18s have suffered their first defeat just one week after opening their Group 11 campaign so strongly.

The juniors were extremely impressive in their first outing against Narromine last weekend but it was a different story when they travelled to Kennard Park in Wellington as the side slipped to a 29-22 defeat.

The trip to Kennard Park is never an easy one and the Cowboys are always tough at home.

The performance came without the services of Joe Gunn, Matt Park and Brodie Hodges, all key members of the squad.

“Probably not real well, pretty ordinary,” said under 18s co-coach Adam Hall when asked about the side’s performance.

Hall said the main problem with the Magpies’ performance was the fact the side’s one-on-one defence wasn’t up to scratch.

Forbes started the game poorly giving away two penalties which lead to Wellington scoring the first try.

A lost ball from a scrum win by the Magpies resulted in Wellington notching up another try.

A great kick by Blake Baxter lead to the Magpies putting pressure on Wellington and then a good backline move resulted in a try to Magpie Aaron Goodsell.

From the kick off Wellington had the Magpies pinned in their own territory, but the evasive skills of Blake Baxter saw him into open space and scoring a length of the field try.

Ethan Williams was successful with the conversion taking the half time score to 14 – 10 the Cowboys way.

Forbes were hoping for a better start to the second stanza but this wasn’t to be, two quick penalties to Wellington saw them cross for another try.

From the next set Wellington were over the line again. The Cowboys were out enthusing the Magpies, more mistakes in the ball handling department lead to another try to the Cowboys.

Wellington were able to pot a field goal over to take the score to 29-10 their way.

The boys rallied and their game lifted, with this came some good field position and Declan Caldwell was able to cross for a try.

Good defence by Mitch Davis and Tas Spackman forced a Wellington mistake and Declan Caldwell was quick to capitalize and with his elusive skills crossed for another try.

With three minutes left on the clock the Magpies launched another attacking raid, which finished with big Chris Butler crossing the line only to have the try disallowed. The final score was 29-22 to the Cowboys.

“The encouraging thing was we didn’t play very well and only lost by seven and we came back at them late,” Hall said.

MSGS Rugby League AcademyCASTLEFORD TIGERS TRIO HEAD DOWN UNDER
YORKSHIRE EVENING POST
Three Castleford High School pupils are heading to Australia to spend 10 weeks playing for the Mackay State High School rugby league team, in Queensland.

George Marchant, Connor Lane and Jordan Gill – who are all on Castleford Tigers' scholarship scheme – were invited Down Under after Cas High beat the Australian school 16-14 during Mackay State's English tour last September.

Tigers are helping the 16-year-olds – who play for the High School's Year 11 side – raise money to fund the expedition.

Marchant – whose uncle Tony is a former Castleford and Great Britain player – described the trip as an "unbelievable" opportunity.

He said: "It's the stuff of dreams. It has not sunk in yet, but we are really grateful to everybody who is supporting us and any donations will be really appreciated."

Tigers spokesman David Smart said: "We believe this opportunity will be of significant benefit to the youngsters' development and we're delighted to be backing their fund-raising activities."

A fund-raising curry night and auction is being held at the Jungle tonight. Tickets are priced £15 and past and present Tigers players will be attending.

There is a lot more to school footy than jumping on a bus and rocking up to the ground, there are many people doing different things to make it as safe and smooth as possible.

After many years helping develop rugby league with in the NSW Catholic Schools system, many people have been involved and this is one opportunity for the NSWCCC to give a bit back.

The NSWCCC will be presenting 'Life Members' Blaiser to the following people next Friday night at the NSW CCC diner

RAMS BECOME COUNTRY BOYS
Western Advocate

THOUGH they fell short of a win in the NSW under 18s Country Championships, the Western Rams have had four players included in the NSW Country team to take on the Queensland under 18s on July 10.

Bathurst Panthers centre Andrew Mendes will join St Pat's three-quarter Kirk Roberts in the Country line-up on the back of a strong display for the Rams which led the Western side to the semi-finals last month.

The duo will play alongside fellow Western pair Matt Langby and Jordan Hay from Dubbo.

Graeme Osborne, who coached the Rams during their campaign said it was a proud feeling to see his charges take the next step in their representative careers.

"Getting anybody into a Country team gives you a pretty warm feeling and a bit of pride," Osborne said.

"Short of actually coaching a team to a win in the Country titles, I think the next-best thing that can happen is to see your players making a team like that."

Osborne explained that while he hadn't had a lot to do with Roberts - who has been selected on the wing but also plays regularly in the centres - his development is a testament to the raw quality of league talent in his native Oberon.

"It is a big reflection on the sport in Oberon, he headed to St Pat's after the Oberon 18s folded and he's already made a good impact there," Osborne said.

"He represented Group 10 in under 16s so he has had a taste of rep footy before this season, and I think he will go well."

For centre Mendes, it continues his rise in the sport that has seen him make virtually every regional and divisional side possible in recent years.

Osborne says that he too has the tools to make an impact for Country.

"Andrew is a good talker, a good communicator and he certainly has a lot of natural speed. Importantly too he is a very good goal-kicker, I think he only missed one or two goals in the first two rounds of the championships," Osborne said.

"He is only a slightly built sort of bloke but he has big powerful legs too which helps him."

Naturally for any player getting this sort of opportunity to play at such a level in the under 18s age group, the next question surrounds both how they will perform when they get the chance, as well as finding out just how far they can go within the sport.

For the Western coach, he can see bright things ahead for both Roberts and Mendes.

"It is up to them personally how far they go, I don't know where they are up to with regards to interest from NRL clubs or anything like that but I can definitely see them acquitting themselves well against Queensland," Osborne enthused.

"I could also see them certainly holding their own in the Toyota Cup under 20s competition, and I think there would a be a fair few clubs who could fit them in their SG Ball [under 18s] sides. They would be able to compete at that level I'm sure."
TITANS UNDER-20S PLAYER STANDS DOWN

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans have today accepted the decision by NYC prop Ronnie Alovili to stand down indefinitely from playing without pay after being involved in an off-field incident.

The under-20s player advised the club of an incident earlier today and the Jetstar Titans have swiftly conducted a preliminary investigation into the matter and accepted the player’s offer to stand down pending the matter being resolved in the future by the Queensland Police and the courts.

“The club considers this a very serious matter,’’ said Jetstar Titans Managing Director Michael Searle.

“However the matter is now before the courts and we are not prepared to prejudice the case by commenting about the incident.

“The club will conduct a full investigation of the matter after the Queensland Police investigation and after the matter has been dealt with by the courts. It is at this time at which the player’s future will be determined.’’

Please be advised that the club will make no further comment in relation to this matter.

CENTRAL GOLD COLLECT PLATE
Townsville Bulletin
TOWNSVILLE junior rugby league club Central Gold claimed the Reggie Matthew Memorial Plate after a comfortable 36-6 victory over Townsville Brothers White in the Gorden Tallis Cup last weekend.

The annual event saw 40 teams from across Queensland come together to compete for the Cup and also raise money for breast cancer in honour of Tallis's sister Jannita Dunn who passed away from the disease earlier this year.

It was a tiring carnival for the under-10 teams involved but the event provided players with friendly competition and lots of fun.

After solid performances throughout the event, Centrals Gold coach Gary Renton couldn't hold back the thrill of his team claiming the Reggie Matthew Memorial Plate.

''The boys were extremely excited (to win the plate) and played good footy throughout the weekend,'' Renton said.

''It was a very tiring competition, they played 11 games in all.

''There were some very hard games and we have a few injuries but it was a great team effort.''

The Centrals side was also able to take home a memento of what was a great weekend - the pink jersey they wore for the carnival. Renton organised the carnival jersey through sponsorship and presented them to his team at the start of the carnival.

''They were surprised, their eyes lit up when we pulled them out,'' Renton said.

''It something for them to keep from the carnival.''

All teams got involved with most teams wearing pink socks or pink shorts.

Adding to the under-10 players' excitement was a visit from ''the man'' Gorden Tallis who presented the kids with their winning shield.

REBELS STOP POWER IN FINAL VICTORY

The Newcastle Rebels defeated the Central Hunter Power 36 - 6 in the final of the AAMI Under 18's Regional Championships at Port Macquarie's Regional Stadium on Friday night.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd of 7500 people in the lead up to the Country v City match, the Newcastle Rebels overcome a 22 year drought to take the title in convincing fashion.

It didn't take long for the Rebels to open their account as they crossed in the 4th minute through a clever dummy half run from Mitch Cullen who failed to convert his own try from just left of the uprights.

Newcastle were at it again after the restart when an intercept chance went begging for the Central Hunter Power gifting Newcastle another set of six in the Power's half which they took full advantage of.

Matt Ireland found some space on the right hand side after some nice lead up work to slice through and beat the fullback to score his 3rd try of the AAMI Regional Championships.

Mitch Cullen made no mistake with the conversion and Newcastle lead 10 - 0 after as many minutes.

The Power gave themselves every chance to reduce the lead after forcing a turnover from the restart. The Power's Kerrod Holland rallied his troops as they went close to putting some points on the board on numerous occasions but it was the Rebels defence that come out top.

They repelled the Power, marched up the other end of the park and with possession in good field position were able to mount significant pressure of their own.

A neat little set play between Tom Rouse and Matt Ireland sent Raymond Buchanan through a hole in the middle of the ruck. Buchanan with plenty of work to do beat the fullback to score with the successful conversion extending Newcastle's lead to 16 points to nil.

That lead was further extended 2 minutes before half time when Jayden Rosberg offloaded to Matt Ireland who crossed for his second try of the match giving Newcastle a 22 - 0 lead at the break.

The scoring dried up in the early parts of the second half as the match turned into an arm wrestle and after 10 minutes Newcastle all but sealed their win when Jason Savin barged over under the sticks to lead 28 - 0 with 25 minutes left in the match.

With time running out Central Hunter revived their slim hopes of a comeback when work horse Daley Boney crossed for a much deserved four pointer which was converted to reduce the margin back to 22 points.

Any hope of a miracle comeback was dashed when Felsie Taufaao offloaded for Ryan Wood who raced 50 metres to score under the posts. A last minute penalty goal to Mitch Cullen round out the scoring and handed Newcastle their first AAMI Country Championship victory since the late 1980's.

Newcastle were further rewarded with a dominant contigent in the Under 18's Country team to tour Queensland later in the year. All in all 8 players were selected in the team announced immediately after the game. Those players named were;

Ben Bradley (Central Newcastle)
Jason Savin (Western Suburbs)
Felise Taufaao (Western Suburbs)
James Elias (Nelson Bay)
Tom Rouse (South Newcastle)
Tom Morton (South Newcastle)
Matt Ireland (South Newcastle)

A day where the Parramatta Eels’ showcased their blue and gold juniors in both the Harold Mathews and the S.G ball sides for the grand finals at St. Mary’s stadium.

The Harold Mathews Eels were out right favourites going into the grand final after an under defeated representative season where little had troubled them.

Both the Eels and the Panthers were ready for the spectacle as their roars could be heard from their dressing sheds before taking the field.

Captain and crowd favourite Frazer Masinamua led his side onto the arena and before play had even commenced, had exchanged heated words with his fellow counterpart and opposite number, Panthers Jakiel Fuimaono.

Penrith got the proceedings underway kicking right to left and the gasping first tackle would set the tone for the rest of the grand final.

Parramatta found the first fifteen minutes tough as the Panthers had set up camp in their attacking zone.

After repeated sets of six, the Eels had kept the Panthers scoreless with strong defence and some individual brilliance from Carlos Lopa who defused two bombs in the in goal area.

The Eels were first to post points in a game turning out to be a thriller. Both number eights where going out it hammer and tongs as their bodies clashed with purpose.

The Eels forwards gained momentum and metres up the field before the backline finished it with a stunning movement which saw Mitchell Moses kick to the left side corner for Ben Fiso to jump high and score.

However, the Eels let up and four minutes later and the Panthers posted their first try through captain Bryce Cartwright.

With the game tied 6 - 6 towards the end of the first half, the Eels started to get frustrated not finding the gaps in the Panthers defence as easily as they thought.

Then a turnover had Panthers winger Jackson Hoffman making a strong break from the halfway to run and score on the stroke of halftime, putting the score to 12 - 6.

The Eels started strongly in the second half, and as they had done all season posted early points through teamwork and persistence.

The break from Kelepi Tanginoa had fans rise before he was pulled down just twenty out. Then quick ball to Robbie Kamoto who saw room to move gave a short pass to Carlos Lopa who posted the points.

The Eels had further opportunities to post points but the Panthers defence held strong and from there turned the tide of the game.

One out running from the Eels had never been apart of their game until now and their coach was shocked by these newly adapted Eels methods.

Riki Willie, Panthers fullback made a break and scored from open play to have the score 16 - 10 with sixteen minutes remaining on the clock.

The Eels could not find rhythm in attack and lacked the elegance of past matches they once had. They continued to fight back but could not find a match winning moment to define the season they had had.

The young Eel’s heads dropped with three minutes remaining when the Panthers scored through their half back Jacob Maklouf to make the score 22 - 10.

The shock and despair from the Eels was prominent after the match as Bryce Cartwright raised the cup above his head.

It was a lesson for a young side who had been so dominant all season and that is it is not how you play in the lead up season, it’ who shows up on the day that counts.

The Panthers were patient and played as a team which had their coach thrilled as the game plan was kept too.

Congratulations Jakiel Fuimaono who received player of the tournament.

SG BALL GRAND FINAL MATCH REPORT

The S.G Ball cup Grand Final for 2010 took place at St. Mary’s stadium between two sides that packed a punch.

The Parramatta Eels’ S.G Ball side were in hot form coming into the 2010 grand final with a run of good wins.

But their competitors today, the Sydney Roosters were also hot to trot as they had beaten premiership favourites Wests the week before.

Both sides looked to test the waters against each other before diving headfirst early on. They looked to get sets of six completed and find the field position before making an attacking move.

And it was the Eels who took first blood when brilliant Jason Wehbe gave a short ball onto a charging bull, Junior Paulo to score under the post just ten minutes into the match.

The Eels found the game of chess going in the way of the Roosters later in the first half as a break for Roosters Cheyse Blair almost resulted in points. But the Eels defence was like a fortress standing strong, unable to be broken through.

Things started to go sour for the Eels as a last option play in their own half gave the Roosters an easy turnover.

Josh Neale could not find the dominant form he had once been in, in prior matches for the Eels. Coming from the bench Josh fumbled his way through three touches in a short period of time.

The Roosters had looked to score from these errors when Cheyse Blair broke through the line, but the goal post pads acted as another Eels defender as he dropped the ball after colliding with it.

After defending stoutly for ten minutes the Eels went back on the attack after a soft penalty piggybacked them out of their own end.

From there a set play was formatted and Vai Toutai ran onto a Chris Ulugia pass to score out wide bringing a 12 - 0 lead with twelve minutes remaining in the first half.

Incredibly, the Eels went into the sheds at half time behind 16 - 12. Three quick tries to the Roosters including two to winger Paul Rokalati whose brilliant vision gave him a magnificent kick and chase try on the stroke of halftime bringing the crowd alive.

Just two minutes into the second half, the game looked bleak for the Eels as Roosters dominating running forward Daniel Arona had the Eels on the back foot. His offload created space for fellow forward Adam Brent to score bringing the margin to eight points at 20 - 12.

But then an eighty-metre break from Vai Toutai had the Eels in a great attacking spot and from soft online defence from the Roosters had the Eels posting their third try of the match.

Dean Blackman bulldozed his way over from dummy half bringing the score close 20 - 18.

With thirteen minutes remaining on the clock the Eels had managed to stay in the game, but the Roosters soon let loose scoring another two quick tries.

A hat trick to Paul Rokalati and a try to Asipelli Fine put the score out of reach for the Eels at 28 - 18 with two minutes remaining.

The Eels never gave up however managing to post last points to bring the score 28 - 24.

Trent Jennings showed the talent of the Eels side when he was able to run through the Roosters team to score on the full time bell.

Jacob Miller raised the cup with cheers from the crowd and his fellow teammates.

Congratulations to Junior Paulo who received player of the tournament in 2010.

HAROLD MATTHEWS CUP GRAND FINAL PREVIEW
ourfootyteam logo
High noon beckons on Saturday at St Marys with a traditional battle of the west shootout between the Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels in the grand final of the prestigious under 16 Harold Matthews Cup.

At the end of nine rounds the Eels and Panthers were placed one and two on the ladder. So there we are ladies and gentlemen we have the two best teams in the competition going head to head on Saturday.

Parramatta is undefeated while the Panthers dropped one game this season against South Sydney in round four.

I’m feeling a sense of déjà vu here. I remember back in 2008 when the Panthers went through the competition undefeated and came up against Parramatta in the grand final.

The Eels had lost only one match during the year but they went into the game as rank outsiders against the red hot Panthers team.

History shows that the Panthers got smacked that day by 30-17 and suffered their first defeat of the season.

The wraps on the Penrith team that year are similar to the plaudits that have circled the Eels team this season.

Many Parramatta supporters believe this Matthews team is as good as or better than their famous 2004 team that included NRL stars Jarryd Hayne, Kris Keating and Trent Hodkinson.

Is there a lesson here for both clubs? I think so. It doesn’t matter what you have achieved during the season – it all boils down to what happens on grand final day. If you go into the game thinking you have got it won then you will probably lose.

Conversely, if you think you are going to get beaten then you shouldn’t even bother turning up. In 2008 Parramatta turned up – Penrith didn’t.

But no doubt Eels coach Chris Bradbury will have his troops prepared and ready to go. They have had a magnificent season and they have many future stars in their ranks.

My favourite player is second rower Kelepi Tanginoa. This boy played wing last year and at 110 kilograms we called him the biggest winger in Harold Matthews history.

He’s lost weight now and is more mobile commensurate with his new position. He is a ferocious competitor who storms onto the football and bumps and fends his way through the defensive line. Love ya Kelepi!

I also love to watch their diminutive and cheeky hooker Zach Clay who is a bundle of energy. He strikes like a death adder out of dummy half and leaves red faces on sleepy defenders.

There are plenty of other players I could name but you know who you are from our previous articles.

The Panthers will be strong opposition and are well led by Bryce Cartwright the nephew of NRL coach John Cartwright. He is a talented player but I think he is carrying a leg injury.

I watched him last week and he seemed to be limping at times during the game. I hope he is ok on Saturday because the pace of the game will be nothing compared to what he has experienced this season.

I tipped against the Eels once a few weeks back and I’m not going to do it again. I think the Eels should win this one but I have seen them under pressure a few times this year and they looked rattled in the process.

If they don’t turn up mentally then I can see the Panthers pushing them all the way.

SG BALL CUP GRAND FINAL PREVIEW
ourfootyteam logo
The two form teams are meeting in the big decider on Saturday.

Before the finals series commenced most pundits had pencilled in a Cronulla vs Wests grand final with perhaps the Melbourne Storm as the dark horse.

But the competition this year has been very tight and any one in the eight had a chance of contesting the big one on Saturday.

The Sydney Roosters have done it in style by coming from eighth place to make the contest. They beat the Knights, minor premiers Cronulla and Western Suburbs to earn the shot at the title.

Roosters coach Adam Hartigan explained the golden run his side has experienced, “I think the boys believe in themselves. We were beaten in the last round of the competition by a better team on the day (Western Academy) and for some of the boys that gave us the shake we needed to understand the mental attitude needed to repeat performances week after week. There are no chances to fix things next week and that's the mentality we have taken into these finals.”

The Parramatta Eels have come from third place on the ladder and earned their place in the decider by initially losing to the Magpies and then smashing in successive weeks the Melbourne Storm and Canterbury Bulldogs.

Whatever Eels coach Greg Boulous has put in his players’ water bottles over the last couple of weeks he should ensure there is copious quantities of it on Saturday.

I think the Roosters did Parramatta a favour last week when that miraculous Jacob Miller field goal from forty metres out sunk the Maggies. The Eels lost twice to them during the season and seemed a bogey side for them.

I think the Eels would prefer to meet the Roosters this week than the team they failed to beat twice. That’s no disrespect to the Roosters – it’s just that the Magpies appeared to have the mental edge over the Eels.

And just to fire up supporters from both clubs in what should be a great contest Hartigan told us, “Whether we will be good enough will be determined on the day but one thing is for sure, we won't die wondering.”

Ourfootyteam has featured some key match-ups this week that will determine the result of this game. Great clashes such as the battle up front between props Junior Paulo and Tai Tuivasa. In the halves Parramatta’s two Jasons, Wehbe and Seage, up against Australian Schoolboy pair Jacob Miller and Cheyse Blair.

Second rowers Matthew Eisenhuth from the Eels locking horns with the Roosters Dane Atkinson. The list goes on.

When pressed on which players his Roosters team needs to watch in the Eels outfit, Hartigan diplomatically told us, “The Man with the ball is usually the most dangerous, so we will look after him first then deal with the other threats later.”

Hartigan rates the Eels highly though, “I think the Parramatta team must be all class. They have hard working forwards, smart halves and quality finishers out wide. We are going to have to be on our game”, he said.

The Eels are going to have to be on their game too. Make no mistake this Roosters team is going to be hard to beat. They have big forwards and pace to burn in the backs with Asipelli Fine, Eddy El-Zebidiah and Henare Wells always eager to score tries.

As Hartigan has identified the Eels also have plenty of strike power. And it’s not just one or two players either as they strike all over the field from prop to fullback.

They have scored twenty three tries in their last two games against the Storm and Bulldogs and sixteen of those tries have come courtesy of their backs.

The Parramatta club has a long and proud history in SG Ball competition, claiming 11 Premierships – the most in the Cup’s 44 year history. There is a kind of an aura of confidence about them that other clubs don’t possess, perhaps with the exception of the Penrith Panthers.

They last won it in 2007. That team included NRL players Daniel Mortimer, John Mannah (Cronulla) Jason Baitieri (Roosters) and Jamie Buhrer (Manly).

You only have to cast your mind back to 2008 to know that this Eels team will have the utmost respect for the Roosters. That year the Roosters beat the Eels 38-12 in the grand final. The Eels team included Sharks NRL player Albert Kelly.

You have to understand the culture and psyche of the Parramatta Eels to understand where they come from at junior representative level. They believe they are born to rule at this level. It’s not that they hope to win – they expect to win!

This nucleus of this current Eels team won the 2008 Harold Matthews Cup where they smashed the Penrith Panthers that day 30-17. The Panthers had been undefeated during the season.

I’m expecting a tough battle between the two in-form teams and there won't be much in it. But I think the Eels with form and history on their side will have too much flair and pace and they will become one of the greatest Eels junior representative teams in their proud history.

MATCH-UP NO. 6
ourfootyteam logo
EELS CHRIS ULUGIA VS ROOSTERS HENARE WELLS

Both these fullbacks bagged two tries last weekend.

Both are blessed with speed and evasive skills. Ulugia is probably more powerful but don't be fooled by Wells' slim build as he can bust through tackles as well.

Wells is from the Queensland nursery Keebra Park High School while Ulugia is from that well known NRL factory - Westfields Sports High School.

Ulugia likes to get involved from all areas of the field including dummy half while Wells loves to run off Jacob Miller's passes and kicks.

This one should be a beauty!

ROOSTERS CHEYSE BLAIR VS EELS JASON WEHBE

It's power vs precision with this match-up. Blair is a brute and stands around six foot two and weighs close to 100 kg.

He also has plenty of toe and has been moved to five eight to get him closer to the action.

Wehbe on the other hand relies on slight of hand passing and ghosting his way through defenses.

But he is now wall flower either as he stands well over six foot. Wehbe also possesses one of the best kicking games in the comp and is a former NSW under 16 representative.

Blair at times looks disinterested but just when you think that - bingo - his over for a try.

Parramatta will have to watch him intently close to the line. You can expect Wehbe to handle the ball every set of six but I know one thing - you are all going to love this contest!

EELS JACOB LOKO VS ROOSTERS ASIPELI FINE

What a match-up this battle of the centres will be.

Both are fine athletes with pace to burn. Fine is a Waverley College product who also excels in rugby union.

He is a gifted footballer who has a good turn of speed and nice footwork.

Loko is more powerful and tipping the scales at 100 kg he is a ball of muscle and power.

Don't let the big weight deceive you as the Hills Sports High product is one of the fastest players in the Eels squad.

Watch for the game within the game with these two.

MATCH-UP NO.4

EELS JASON SEAGE VS ROOSTERS JACOB MILLER

Both these players steer their teams around the paddock like military generals.

Matraville Sports product Miller is well known while Seage is the new kid on the block.

Word from the Eels bunker say this fella is one of the fastest and strongest players in the team.

Miller won the game for the Roosters last week when he potted a 40 metre field goal to deny Wests a spot in the grand final.

Seage ripped the Bulldogs apart with his speed and passing game and took his tally to seven tries for the season.

I'm really looking forward to the clash of the generals!

PARRAMATTA EELS' JUNIOR REPS THROUGH TO GRAND FINAL
Story By : Parramatta EELS
ourfootyteam logo
The Pirtek Parramatta Eels' junior representative teams have been dominant once again this season with the Eels' the only team to have both Harold Matthews and SG Ball win through to the Grand Final.

Head out to St Marys Stadium this Saturday to support the future of this club with Harold Matthews taking on the Penrith Panthers at 12.00pm before SG Ball battle the Sydney Roosters at St Marys Leagues Stadium at 2.00pm.

SG Ball have come from third place to make the Grand Final against a red-hot Roosters side who have come from eighth and defeated both first and second placed-teams to make it.

The Harold Matthews side have been undefeated all year and are still the team to beat in this competition.

They defeated the Newcastle Knights 30-20 in the final. For the full match report click here and scroll to the last match report.

The SG Ball side had a big 52-28 win over the Canterbury Bulldogs to qualify.

SG BALL THROUGH TO GRAND FINAL

The SG Ball squad became the first team into the 2010 Grand Final with a resounding 52-28 victory over the Canterbury Bulldogs on Saturday at St Mary's Stadium.

After a slow start with the Bulldogs surging to a 12-0 lead in the space of only ten minutes the Eels found their rythym to get back in the game. Parra crossed out wide to reduce the margin to eight and looked ominous. The Bulldogs gained possession from a Parramatta error and scored next to the posts to gain 18-8 advantage.

In the next 12 minutes the Parramatta Eels lifted their game and controlled the ball to race the clock with four tries. The game opened up by some attacking brilliance all across the park. With a 20 point lead at half time a Grand Final berth looked a formality.

The Bulldogs came out firing and put some heat on the Eels goal line defence, they scored and looked as though a comeback was in the offering. The Eels responded nicely crossing after some short sharp interchange of passing to find the Bulldogs short. Another try by the Dogs got them within 16 points with 15 minutes remaining.

The Eels repelled the comeback and put on two more tries to put the game out of reach and enter the 2010 SG Ball Grand Final.

Stand out performances by Josh Neale and Matthew Eisenhuth in the middle let the number seven Jason Seage run amok setting up two tries, scoring one and making three line breaks. Dean Blackman probed around the rucks and Jacob Gagan put the icing on the cake of some enterprising backline moves.

The Parramatta Eels play the Sydney Roosters in a much anticipated Grand Final which will consist of some free flowing Rugby League. They head to the "decider" with plenty of confidence on the back of two outstanding wins.
NSWCHS TRIALS
The NSWCHS trials get it on at St. Mary's Stadium tomorrow (Tuesday 4th).

The Sydney CHS trials will be with out some of the best schoolboys rugby league players as they are unavailable due to junior rep commitments for this weekends SG Ball Cup & Harold Matthews Cup Grand Finals.

Sydney East will be struggling to field a full strength team this year and it looks like the Presidents side will be pretty awesome as will the NSWCCC opens team

The NSWCCC trials commence in 2 weeks also out at St. Mary's Stadium, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE TRIALLING THIS YEAR

JUNIOR REP GRAND FINAL 'MATCH UP's'
ourfootyteam logo
This week ourfootyteam will feature some key match-ups in our grand final build up in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball Cups.

They will feature the key players that we believe could ultimately decide the course of the grand final.

Also stay tuned for PK's Grand Final previews later in the week.

Today we start with our first key match-up:

Roosters Tai Tuivasa v the Eels Junior Paulo.

Big games are won up front and next Saturday's battle between these two heavyweights will be no exception.

Both young men weigh in over 115 kilograms so expect to see some fireworks when these two lock horns.

It will be no place for the weak hearted in the first fifteen minutes of this clash and the battle between these two could decide the fate of their respective teams.

Tuivasa is known as the human wrecking ball and his big runs usually attract three and four defenders to halt his progress. He may have a point to prove too. He trialed with the Eels in the pre-season after being unwanted by his old club Penrith.

Parramatta also flicked him and he ended up at the Roosters - a long way from home for the St Dominics College Kingswood student.

Paulo has been killing them at the Eels. He has been instrumental in the Eels surg to the finals. He has continually broken the defensive line and can also slip a good ball to supports.

I'm really looking forward to this clash of the titans!
MATCH-UP NO. 2

PANTHERS JAKIEL FUIMAONO V FRAZER MASINAMUA

I wouldn't like to be in the middle of the field when the referee blows his whistle at high noon next Saturday to start the Harold Matthews Cup grand final.

These two big boppers coming together is akin to the irresistible force vs the immovable object! Both players should be picked in the NSW under 16 team to be chosen later on.

They both provide go-forward for their respective teams and when the going gets tough it's usually these two blokes who put their hands up for some hard yakka.

Fuimaono honed his skills in the Western Academy Matthews Cup team last season and that experience has been invaluable this year. Masinamua is the Eels skipper and he leads his team by example often taking the ball up a couple of times in a set.

This clash will be worth the price of admission alone.
